Trionfa la Tartuca. Siena ha celebrato il suo Palio. I cavalli, come barberi, hanno volato sul tufo, mentre la città in un grido, si è liberata dell’attesa. Il rito si è ripetuto. Diciassette città dentro una città, come nel bel drappellone dipinto da Franco Fortunato per questa Carriera di agosto, hanno aspettato per quattro giorni. Sperato e pregato. Respirato e vissuto la magia della città che, nella sua più grande festa, rivive il passato nel presente.

Dopo la solennità del corteo storico: velluti, broccati, armature, cavalli e vessilli per ricordare gesta che hanno scritto la storia, ma anche la civiltà di un popolo che in questo ha creduto e crede, finalmente i 10 barberi sono usciti dall’antico cortile del Palazzo comunale. Montati a pelo, come la tradizione vuole, e come il naturale connubio d’amore che, a Siena, unisce l’uomo all’animale, hanno raggiunto la mossa. E’ per questo amore che la Contrada della Giraffa non ha corso il Palio. Guschione, il sauro di 8 anni toccatole in sorte, aveva avuto uno stiramento dei muscoli e, per cautelare la salute dell’animale, collegialmente, i veterinari comunali, il veterinario del Magistrato delle Contrade e la dirigenza della Contrada della Giraffa, insieme all’Amministrazione comunale hanno deciso per il ritiro.

Tra i canapi si sono allineate: Tartuca, Selva, Drago, Valdimontone, Onda, Civetta, Oca e Nicchio con il Bruco di rincorsa.

Il fantino veste il giubbetto con i colori della Contrada, ma a vincere è il cavallo. L’unico, vero, e indiscusso protagonista del Palio di Siena. A nulla valgono gli accordi, i partiti come li chiamano i senesi. In questa città non si esulta per il nome del fantino che ha accettato di correre per i tuoi colori. Qui la gioia la vivi quando la sorte, per estrazione, ti fa avere il cavallo con il quale inizi a sperare.

Parte in testa il Drago, quasi insieme l’Onda, dietro Tartuca e Valdimontone. All’altezza di Fonte Gaia la Tartuca è già in testa, inseguita dal Drago e dall’Onda. Vi resterà per il resto della corsa, invano inseguita dalla Civetta e dal Valdimontone che, in questa corsa di mezza estate, sperava nella vincita attesa da venti anni, mentre la Selva, in terza posizione alla prima curva del Casato, cade. Luigi Bruschelli, detto Trecciolino, ha tagliato il bandierino.

La corsa è finita. Istriceddu, baio di sette anni, ha vinto per la seconda volta, dimostrando a tutti la sua potenza. Il capitano della Tartuca, Massimo Sportelli, ha consegnato il drappellone al popolo di Castelvecchio, che è corso in Duomo a ringraziare la Madonna per il sogno realizzato. La Tartuca, a solo un anno dall’ultima vincita, era il 2 luglio del 2009, ha conquistato la sua 48ª vittoria.

Guschione, the 8-year-old horse that was assigned to her, had pulled a muscle and, to protect the animal’s health, the municipal veterinarians, the veterinarian of the Magistrato delle Contrade and the management of the Contrada della Giraffa, together with the municipal administration, decided to withdraw.

Among the ropes, the following lined up: Tartuca, Selva, Drago, Valdimontone, Onda, Civetta, Oca and Nicchio with Bruco as rincorsa.

The jockey wears the jacket with the colors of the Contrada, but the horse wins. The only, true, and undisputed protagonist of the Palio di Siena. Agreements, parties as the Sienese call them, are worthless. In this city, no one rejoices for the name of the jockey who has agreed to run for your colors. Here you experience joy when fate, by extraction, gives you the horse with which you begin to hope.

Drago starts in the lead, almost at the same time as Onda, behind Tartuca and Valdimontone. At the height of Fonte Gaia Tartuca is already in the lead, chased by Drago and Onda. It will remain there for the rest of the race, chased in vain by Civetta and Valdimontone who, in this midsummer race, hoped for the victory awaited for twenty years, while Selva, in third position at the first curve of the Casato, falls. Luigi Bruschelli, known as Trecciolino, has cut the flag.

The race is over. Istriceddu, a seven-year-old, has won for the second time, demonstrating his power to everyone. Luigi Bruschelli, Trecciolino, behaalde zijn 12de overwinning op de Piazza met Istriceddu (7 jaar, 2e overwinning) en komt zo weer dichter bij het record van Aceto (14).

SIENA – Tartuca heeft de Palio van Siena gewonnen en dit na 1 jaar ‘wachten’. De vorige overwinning dateert immers van 2 juli 2009. Dit maakt kapitein Massimo Sportelli onsterfelijk. Hij was 2 maal kapitein en won dus ook 2 maal ! Het was het paard Istriceddu, winnaar voor Civetta vorig jaar, en ruiter Trecciolino die zich kroonden tot meester van de Piazza.

De Palio werd slechts met 9 gereden nadat het paard van Giraffa, Guschione, een lichte blessure opliep tijdens de Prova Generale. Tussen de touwen werd al snel duidelijk dat Nicchio slechts één opdracht gekregen had, nl. Montone het leven zuur maken. Dit lukte ook, Voglia bewaarde zijn rust niet en verloor al zijn concentratie. Tartuca, die als eerste binnengeroepen werd, kreeg ‘opvallend’ veel plaats van Selva.

Na een half uur getrek en geduw (Montone-Nicchio) besloot Bruco, met als ruiter de schoonzoon (Gingillo) van Trecciolino, dat het tijd was om te vertrekken. Drago en Tartuca op kop, gevolgd door Onda. Tartuca nam de binnenkant en kwam als eerste uit San Martino. Drago ging te breed en Civetta, die slecht gestart was, nam een perfecte bocht en kwam net na Tartuca de bocht uit. Selva deed een inhaalmaneuver voor het stadhuis en kwam als derde de Casato in. Daar viel Salasso en hield zo de rest even op.

Het waren Tartuca en Civetta die het onderling moesten uitvechten. Civetta (Brio) zette Tartuca constant onder druk maar geraakte er niet meer over. Het was Trecciolino die voor Tartuca de 6e overwinning sinds 1991 en de 4e sinds 2002 binnenhaalde. Een knap record dat niemand evenaart de laatste 20 jaar.

Voor Luigi Bruschelli (Trecciolino) was het zijn 12e zege op de Piazza. De jacht op het record van Aceto kan verder gezet worden.
