Gode Pantaneto. Gode l’esordiente Jonatan Bartoletti detto Scompiglio. Gode Capitan Fumi e il suo staff e gode soprattutto il popolo del Leocorno, esemplificazione di come il Palio non sia affatto un gioco esclusivo riservato a ricchi e potenti. A volte basta il calore di una Contrada, il feeling tra un cavallo esperto e grintoso e l’euforia giovanile di un fantino che su quell’anello di tufo vuole lasciare la sua impronta indelebile. Basta poco e in Piazza del Campo i sogni si realizzano come nelle favole. Perché quella di Jonatan Bartoletti detto Scompiglio e Brento è una favola.

La favola del fantino che cerca un’occasione e quando alla fine ce l’ha riesce a sfruttarla. La favola del cavallo sfortunato, escluso, messo ai margini del Palio che in meno di un mese e mezzo si rialza, riparte e vola sul tufo fino al terzo bandierino.

E’ dolce la notte in Pantaneto, fatta di rullo di tamburi, sventolio di bandiere e canti verso il cielo stellato e le tenebre non attutiscono una gioia destinata a sconfinare molto oltre la fine dell’estate.

Il ritorno sul verrocchio di Dino Costantini ha coinciso con una mossa rapida, appena venti minuti, e pensare che le premesse non erano per niente buone. Quattro avversarie sul tufo, Contrade potenti con i cavalli più ambiti e ben cinque barberi esordienti su dieci. Tutte variabili che rischiavano di creare problemi su problemi in partenza e invece, ancora una volta, il Palio ha dimostrato che non ci sono regole.

Alle 19,12 l’uscita dei cavalli dall’Entrone, quindi l’attesa per quella busta che rapidamente è scesa dal palco dei Capitani fino ad arrivare nelle mani del mossiere. Poi la chiamata: Giraffa (Luca Minisini detto Dè e Gridu), Chiocciola (Alberto Ricceri detto Salasso e Giordhan), Leocorno (Jonatan Bartoletti detto Scompiglio e Brento), Bruco (Giovanni Atzeni detto Tittia e Choci), Onda (Valter Pusceddu detto Bighino e Ermellyno), Istrice (Andrea Mari detto Brio e Elisir Logudoro), Valdimontone (Luigi Bruschelli detto Trecciolino e Estremo Oriente), Civetta (Giuseppe Zedde detto Gingillo e Elmizatopec), Lupa (Gianluca Fais detto Vittorio e Favella) e di rincorsa il Drago (Antonio Villella detto Sgaibarre e Fedora Saura).

Subito dopo l’ingresso della nona Contrada la sensazione è che la mossa non sarà interminabile. L’allineamento più o meno è subito abbastanza valido, anche se non mancano delle eccezioni. La pressione nella parte centrale del canape crea problemi soprattutto a Bruco e Onda, rispettivamente al quarto e quinto posto. Sia Choci che Ermellyno non riescono a restare con il petto sul canape e arretrano perdendo la posizione.

Il mossiere Costantini dopo soli due minuti decide di far uscire tutti. Si ricomincia ma i problemi restano i soliti. Le nove Contrade al canape sono in pratica divise in due parti, con grande spazio tra l’Onda e l’Istrice. Qualche problema anche nella parte bassa dove la Chiocciola chiede spazio. In certi momenti la mossa sembra comunque imminente, tanto che il mossiere pronuncia il fatidico «avanti Drago» che sulle prime Villella non asseconda. Serve un’altra uscita dal canapi, ma quando si torna dentro è la volta buona. Il Drago rompe gli indugi e dà la rincorsa: si parte!

La Chiocciola schizza in testa seguita da Giraffa e Leocorno, prima della curva di San Martino la Giraffa è davanti, Salasso sembra rallentare, mentre il Drago all’esterno si porta in testa. Il Leocorno è quarto, ma Jonatan è pronto a confezionare il suo capolavoro. Richiama un attimo Brento e quando Giraffa, Chiocciola e Drago allargano la traiettoria li infila tutti all’interno, uscendo in testa dalla curva.

Cade Sgaibarre, cade Salasso, dietro al Leocorno resta la Giraffa, poi lo scosso del Drago, il Bruco, l’Onda e il Valdimontone. In quest’ordine al primo Casato, alla mossa e anche al secondo San Martino. Scompiglio controlla senza problemi il suo primo posto e al secondo Casato arriva un’altra svolta. Tittia nel tentativo di recuperare Fedora Saura scossa tocca il colonnino e cade, coinvolgendo anche l’Onda. L’ultimo giro è un discorso tra Leocorno e Giraffa, ma Brento e Jonatan Bartoletti non lasciano spazio a chi insegue, fino allo scoppio del mortaretto.

The night in Pantaneto is sweet, made of drum rolls, waving flags and songs towards the starry sky and the darkness does not dampen a joy destined to go far beyond the end of the summer.

Dino Costantini’s return to the Verrocchio coincided with a quick move, just twenty minutes, and to think that the premises were not good at all. Four opponents on the tuff, powerful Contrade with the most coveted horses and five out of ten debuting Barberi. All variables that risked creating problems upon problems from the start and instead, once again, the Palio has shown that there are no rules.

At 7:12 pm the horses left the Entrone, then the wait for that envelope that quickly descended from the Captains’ stage until it arrived in the hands of the starter. Immediately after the entrance of the ninth Contrada the feeling is that the move will not be interminable. The alignment is more or less quite valid right away, even if there are some exceptions. The pressure in the central part of the rope creates problems especially for Bruco and Onda, respectively in fourth and fifth place. Both Choci and Ermellyno are unable to keep their chest on the rope and fall back, losing their position.

The starter Costantini decides to send everyone out after only two minutes. We start again but the problems remain the same. The nine Contrade at the rope are practically divided into two parts, with a lot of space between Onda and Istrice. Some problems also in the lower part where Chiocciola asks for space. At certain moments the move seems imminent, so much so that the starter pronounces the fateful “go ahead Drago” which Villella does not support at first. Another exit from the rope is needed, but when they return inside it is the right time. Drago breaks the hesitation and gives a run-up: off we go!

Chiocciola shoots into the lead followed by Giraffa and Leocorno, before the San Martino curve Giraffa is in front, Salasso seems to slow down, while Drago on the outside takes the lead. Leocorno is fourth, but Jonatan is ready to create his masterpiece. He calls Brento for a moment and when Giraffa, Chiocciola and Drago widen the trajectory he passes them all on the inside, coming out of the curve in the lead.

Sgaibarre falls, Salasso falls, behind Leocorno remains Giraffa, then the shaken Drago, Bruco, Onda and Valdimontone. In this order to the first Casato, to the mossa and also to the second San Martino. Scompiglio controls his first place without problems and to the second Casato comes another turning point. Tittia in an attempt to catch up with Fedora Saura shaken touches the column and falls, also involving Onda. The last lap is a contest between Leocorno and Giraffa, but Brento and Jonatan Bartoletti leave no space for those chasing, until the firecracker explodes.

Het is de onfortuinlijke Brento, het paard dat desondanks de grote verwachtingen nooit won en in juli ten val kwam bij de eerste prova en daarna uit voorzorg uit koers gehaald werd, trekt eindelijk aan het langste eind. En dit met de jonge, enthousiaste debutant Bartoletti.

Tien jaar na zijn laatste palio vanop de verrocchio komt mossiere Dino Costantini terug. Hij slaagt erin om de 10 deelnemers binnen de 20 minuten te laten starten. Vier rivalen staan aan de start, 5 paarden debuteren.

De wijken worden in volgende volgorde binnengeroepen : Giraffa, Chiocciola, Leocorno, Bruco, Onda, Istrice, Valdimontone, Civetta, Lupa en Drago die de start geven. Favorieten zijn Bruco (Choci)en Drago (Fedora Saura).

Chiocciola gaat direct aan kop, gevolgd door Giraffa en Leocorno. Drago gaat langs boven en pakt de kop. De snelheid ligt echter te hoog en hij valt. Leocorno is op die moment vierde, maar Scompiglio lijkt klaar om met een meesterwerk te debuteren.

Hij vertraagt een beetje, en duikt het gat in. Hij neemt binnenkant bocht met de ‘logge’ Brento. Na de eerste San Martino loopt Leocorno aan kop. Gevolgd door Giraffa, de scosso van Drago, Onda en Valdimontone.

Leocorno controleert de koers en neemt de palio na 6 jaar terug mee naar Pantaneto.
